Music Video Conventions

Chance the Rapper - Juice
Music videos follow certain conventions. This music video was to make the video bright to attract the audience. Also, just upbeat music to attract the audience and lots of different camera shots which is vital for a  music video. It also looks like he is having a good time as he is dancing.

Mumford and Sons - Little Lion Man
It shows that everyone is enjoying themselves as there are hundreds of people around him smiling and dancing. Also, lots of instruments to show that he is a good musician so most of his audience will respect him more as a musician. The tempo of the video is fast which would catch the audiences eye. Finally, there are lots of different camera shots.

James Morrison - You Give Me Something
First of all, it's showing people doing what they do everyday (shop) which would show that he is a normal person and would also make people respect him much more. He's also wearing everyday clothes, that could make people respect him more as he is just acting like a normal person and it would attract more people to watch his video. Finally, there are lots of different camera shots.

Astor - Yes I Know My G
His music video is being shot in the streets which would show he's a normal young boy. Also, everyone is wearing everyday clothes. The thing I didn't like is the way he was playing up to the cameras with his walk, that could come across as fake and make people lose respect for him. One more thing I appreciated, there was no swearing as it was a rap song.

Kendrick Lamar - Poetic Justice
Loads of people are dressed up for the special occasion in the video. Also, there are nice cars that would definitely attract the audiences eye and also the amount of people that are in the video would probably catch the audiences eye. Finally, he is hanging out with his friends.

Buzz Evaluation

Evaluation Guidance

What genre did you think the name represented? Why?
I think the name Buzz represented a kind of Rock genre. I think this because the two Z's on the end of it. This radio stations target audience will be people who enjoy rock music, as the radio station will only be playing rock music.

Who do you think the audience is? Why?
The target audience will be 18-26 year olds who enjoy rock music. There isn't a large group of rock music radio stations, so I went for something different and done the rock genre. I tried to be original with my radio station.

How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I used gloomy and dull colours like black and white because it is usually goths that listen to rock music. I was hoping that them two dark colours would catch their eyes. I also used a evil looking text which also looks goth like. I made the text chunky and long so it would definitely catch the audiences eye.

Who did you think would be the stations' competitors? Why?
Huge competitors would be radio stations like Planet Rock. I think this because there target audience is exactly the same as ours and they will be most likely be playing the same music.

What 'look' did you create and why?
I wanted to create a dark look. I wanted that because goths are the ones that usually listen to rock music and there usually attracted to dark and dull stuff.

How did you create that look? And use technical terminology.
I went to the text tool and typed Buzz. I then edited the text by going on the writing pallet. I pulled the words closer to each other and also made the text fatter and longer. Then I put a box over the text by going to the shape tool. Next, I used a gradient overlay effect to create a faded look on the square. I done this by marking the square then going to layer, layer style and gradient overlay. Next, I put some lines around the edges so that it gives it a good effect. I also changed the font to a more goth look.

What do you think the most successful thing about your logo is?
A successful thing about my logo is the use of dull colours. The most successful thing about my logo has to be the text. The text is very big and goth like and sure to catch the target audiences eye.

VIP Evaluation

Evaluation Guidance

What genre did you think the name represented? Why?
I think a radio station with the name VIP will be based on a Hip Hop genre. A radio station like this would be playing songs that would attract young people to listen to it like Miley Cyrus and Kanye West for example. Because VIP stands for 'very special person', the first thing that came to my head is young teens idols like the artists I just mentioned.

Who do you think the audience is? Why?
The target audience for my radio station will be 12-26 year old's. As the music is Hip Hop, and mostly young teenagers listen to that kind of music because there idols are pop stars. The colours of my logo will me red and blue. I picked them two basic colours because both young boys and girls like them colours.

How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I chose the colour red and blue because both young girls and boys like them colours. I wanted my target audience to notice my logo that is why I chose them popular colours. Also, the text I used is stylish and will be appealing to that young audience.

Who did you think would be the stations' competitors? Why?
I think radio stations like Choice FM and Kiss FM will be huge competitors. I think these two will be huge competitors for my radio station because we will play the same type of music as they are aiming to attract the same audience as I.

What 'look' did you create and why?
With my design I wanted to create a fresh and stylish look for my young audience. That is why I used a blue and a red to attract them. Also, my stylish writing would also attract them. I also created a pattern on the square with pattern overlay. That gives the square a sort of diamond affect. I chose this diamond affect because that's what most Hip Hop pop stars have.

How did you create that look? And use technical terminology.
First of all, I went to the text tool and wrote 'vip'. Next, I go to the writing pallet and edit it, such as pulling the letters closer into each other, making the letters chunkier and changing the colour of the text. Then, I used the shape tool to make a big square to go around the text, then coloured it in blue. After changing the square to blue, I placed it underneath the 'vip' sign. Then I went to 'Layer' and then 'Layer Style' and then 'Pattern Overlay', that then created the diamond affect on the square. Finally, I added 4 rectangles to make this affect on the corner of the square.

What do you think the most successful thing about your logo is?
Some successful things about my logo are the diamond affect on my square, it shows the way some of their idols live. I think the most successful thing shout my logo has to be the colours. I used two popular colours that should catch the eye of many teenagers.
