Filming Rushes

Filming my rushes has been a lot of hard work and very challenging. For example, my group and I had to get the lighting correct whilst shooting the green screen part of the video because we didn't want there to be any shadows when we try to edit this part of the music video. We also had to make the lip synching fit in time with the actual song so the audience thought us the artist were actually singing. We also had to get props and choose location. There were quite a lot of problems my group and i came across but we overcame to produce a good standard of work that we worked hard to try and achieve a good grade.

Budgeting Review

As well as planning my advertisement, there are some important things that have to be sorted out before I even think about filming it. I will have to have an idea on the prices for a range of things like the equipment that I will need to use but also the price of hiring actors for my advert. I will conduct comprehensive research to find out the cost of the following:

  • DLSR Camera
  • Tripod
  • MacBook
  • Location Hire
  • Editing Hire
  • Actors
This research will have to be done a long time before I actually start filming as it is vital that I find the best prices for everything that I need.

When researching, I found different cameras and I managed to see what is in my price range and also what camera would be good to use for my advert so I looked Nikon and Canon cameras. When researching, I found that the Nikon camera was more expensive than the Canon camera, but the quality of the Nikon cameras were better. Therefore, I have decided I am going to rent the Nikon camera for 4 days and that is going to cost me £80.

I have also been researching for tripods and have found out that it would also cost £80 to hire for 4 days.

It is difficult to give you a specific price on how much it would be to  rent actors as it all depend on what type of actor you are looking for. To make the best out of my money, I will be looking for a cheap actor, but also one that performs well.

These are showing how much it would cost to rent some spaces in a school. It all depends on how big I will want my space for when I'm filming, the bigger the room, the more it will cost to rent.

The budget for my advertisement will be £800. This money will be spent on the equipment hire which includes actors, location, tripods and cameras.

It is difficult to give you a specific price on how much it would be to  rent actors as it all depend on what type of actor you are looking for. If you want a top class actor then that is going to cost a lot of money for them to feature in your video, whereas, if you do not want to spend a lot of money then you are going to get a rubbish actor. To make the best out of my money, I will be looking for a cheap actor, but also one that performs well.

These are showing how much it would cost to rent some spaces in a school. It all depends on how big I will want my space for when I'm filming, the bigger the room, the more it will cost to rent. I will be using a classroom for 4 days so that will come to £88.

The total to hire all these pieces of equipment comes to £690. With my total budget being £800 I will have £110 left over.

Footage of Using Planning Docements

During the Pre-Production process there were a number of planning documents that had to be created such as a storyboard, shooting schedule and a risk assessment, to name a few. These documents would then help me to film my music video because I would just have to recreate these drawings from the storyboard. The risk assessment allowed me to be aware of any of the dangers that may occur whilst filming, by completing this, I could then avoid any of these potential dangers.

When I had to go to each location, I read through the documents to get a clear picture of what I needed to do in the upcoming filming session. In addition, when I was on set, I instructed the two artists on what they had to do whilst filming.

As part of the Pre-Production process, I had to create a rushes log, which is a table of all my footage which describes how long the shots are, what are the shot types and whether they're effective. I filled out the rushes log after each filming session. I looked back at my footage and considered whether it was effective or not, by doing this it allowed my to judge what shots needed to be filmed again as they weren't up to standard. Furthermore, this made me more focused and determined for the next time I filmed parts of the music video as I needed to make sure they were going to be excellent pieces of footage.

These are images of me using the planning documents to help me re-create the ideas from the storyboards into my music video. By doing this, it made the process of filming much easier as I knew what to film and the type of shots that I should use.

Second Draft

Music Video Final Version

This is the completed version of my final music video. I believe that this music video is a success due to the editing being sharp and quick to the beat and this gives the music video an exciting feel to it. There are areas to improve within this music video. The majority of the shots are in an alley and I think the music video would be even better if there was a wider range of locations. In addition, the artists are wearing similar clothes in a lot of the shots, once again the music video can be improved if the artists wore different clothes.

There are also a lot of effects that have been used in this music video. For instance the green screen, I had to use an effect on Adobe Premiere Pro called 'Ultra Key' and this would allow me to add any background to the green screen, so I chose a clock because the whole music video is about time (Don't Waste My Time). I also used another effect called 'Warp Stabiliser' which would make some shots that were shaky more stable. Furthermore, at the start and end of the music video I used a fade effect on the footage to make it look more professional.

Story Boards

This is my groups storyboard which we intend to follow when filming our music video. We will try to replicate the exact shots in order for our music video and our planning to coincide and make sense.

Animatics

This is an animatic that we, as a group, created. We done this by taking a picture of every shot from our storyboard and we placed the track along with it, we finished off the animatic by carefully making the beat of the song fit with the pictures.
